1          Early Achaemenid, 525 BC - Kevin Everard & Robin Honey-Frazer MM1
2          Alexandrian Macedonian, 335 BC - John Brooker & Mark Allison MM2
3          Gallic, 230 BC - John Vaughan & Bob Billing M2
4          Later Carthaginian, 219 BC - Duncan Thompson MM2
5          Norse Viking, 866 AD - Richard Gill & Paul Farbon M2
6          Norse Irish, 1187 AD - Jeremy Morgan & John Calvert MM1
7          Welsh, 1405 AD - Andy Brooker & Kevin Baker M2
8          Wallachian, 1466 AD - Drew Jarman M2

10        Tudor English, 1513 AD - John Graham-Leigh & Russ King MM2

Congratulations to Jer and John for taking yet another un-fancied army and winning a tournament. They lead from start to finish and yet again proved they are the team to beat in any tournament. Well done to the Cowards Wargames Club for organising yet another excellent tournament and to their volunteer caterers for providing two excellent lunchtime meals yet again.

Eternal shame on Andy and Kevin for taking the North Welsh with Fake French Ally. [It was also illegal in its composition by 1 element [Mistakes happen!]]. Since they have changed the MM2 Welsh list back to Irr Bw O they should have deleted the never happened French Ally option at the same time. Not that this would have made any difference to the M2 list.

Peter Hockaday entered his first Doubles tournament and bravely chose to stick with his Mediaeval German army and came a respectable 8th only 1 VP behind Duncan and myself.

Richard and Paul chose an army that was also going to be subject to the fates of the draw and who they played against. It’s a very difficult army to use and I am not sure if their composition was the way to organise this army.

For myself I really enjoyed using the Wallachians and I would certainly consider taking them again to another doubles tournament. The army has a nice mix of troops and despite being irregular didn’t end up being too difficult to coordinate. The Italian mercenary knights failed to make any effect all weekend apart from make the other players avoid where they were deployed. The Art S only fired four times all weekend and kept a four element wide corridor clear from their front in most of the games. I will need to rejig my list in light of this weekends experience as I realised that one of my commands was too small whilst the other two were slightly too large.

This calendar year makes the last use of the DBMM1 lists in the DBM Doubles circuit.

I used AirBnB for the first time which also worked out well.

The Tie  Count Back totals show which teams faced the strongest opponents on the day. Of course its all down to individual game outcomes and the subsequent draws but I was surprised that the Welsh ended up coming 5th despite facing what turned out to be facing the teams that accumulated more VP than anyone else. It was no surprise that the team coming last ended up facing almost all the most successful teams according to the VP totals. I guess those very few 10-0/9-1 results were critical in a tournament dominated by 6-4/5-5 results.

10-0 = 2 games
9-1 = 1 game
8-2 = 0 games
7-3 = 0 games
6-4 = 8 games
5-5 = 9 games

Here are a selection of pictures from each round or the tournament.
