15mm Chinese - Part 12

Southern Dynasty Bamboo & Paper Lions - Chinese Part 12

As part of the Chinese Morph project I am adding in a few missing bits here and there to allow me to use the Chinese collection for more armies. The latest project is Northern & Southern Dynasties. The Southern Dynasty part of the list has the unique troop type of Bamboo and Paper Lions. These are only available in 15mm scale from Evil Gong Miniatures of Australia but are very difficult to source. In all it took me three months wait before I finally got them. The are very well cast with minimal flash and in the end I decide to put two castings on each base to make them look more impressive. I had ordered 12 castings in all so I have four left over which I have also based up ready to sell. Unfortunately the are not cheap to buy costing me the equivalent of nearly £5 each casting after shipping and taxes are included.

I painted each Lion a different colour to ensure that they had some variation.

As usual they are on magnetic based MDF, finished off with Vallejo Earth Brown paste, rocks and tufts and finished off with a spray sealer varnish for protection.

Here are the finished left over Lions which will be put onto EBay shortly.

Ebay Bargain of Hellenistic Greek Pikes and Spears

15mm Hellenistic Greek Heavy Infantry For a Song

Just before Xmas 2020 I saw a job lot of 32 elements of Greek Pikemen on Ebay. That's 128 figures and I put in a speculative bid not really expecting to win. I did win them though and ended up paying a total of £55-10 including delivery for what turned out to be quite reasonably painted Ancient Greek infantry. This was less that the cost of the bare metal if purchased new. When they arrived I saw that there were 20 pikes and spears missing and the basing was very old fashioned.

So I knew that I would have to remove them from their bases, clean off the old basing and repair all the broken weapons. This took quite a while and I had to sort out the various painted groups and repaint a few shields to match to create uniform pike blocks. 16 of the infantry turned out to be spearmen as seen on the far right of the picture above.

I finally completed all the new bases yesterday and spray sealed them this morning. All in all I am very pleased with the results. I can either keep them of sell them off to at least double my money now they are refurbished.

Hindu Indian 15mm Missing Elements

 Tin Soldier 15mm Indian Infantry

After what seems like forever I finally painted up the last of the 15mm Tin Soldier Indian infantry I had laying around from when I created my Delhi Sultanate army back in 2014. I had 66 HB24 Indian Archers Firing and 32 HB25 Indian Javelinmen left to paint. I painted the archers as 22 Irr Bw elements and the javelinmen as 16 Irr Ps S elements. Because I already had a few javelinmen painted I removed them from their old basing so I could create 20 elements with identical basing even if they were not painted the same skin colour as the new batch of infantry. Bases are the usual MDF with magnetic sheeting underneath, edges painted Brunt Umber, with Vallejo Earth Brown Sandy Paste, rock scatter and various tufts applied and completed with a spray sealer to protect them. I have been experimenting with Black Hat Washes and all of these figures are finished in their Dark Brown Wash.

They came out quite nicely given the age of the castings and I thing will be a good fit to mix in with the Museum Miniatures Z Range of new castings though not on the same bases.
