15 mm Early Swiss Enfant Perdus

Early Swiss Enfant Perdus

The DBM/DBMM Early Swiss had eight Reg Ps I Enfant Perdus in the list. They are rock throwing children and I thought no one made them until I was directed to the Minifigs website under their Two Dragons range of Dark Age Peasants.

The figures are quite well sculpted and are ideal for these particular Swiss elements.

I only have one more Reg Bd X CinC element to paint to field the Early Swiss army which grew out of my Later Swiss and other suitable three to a base Halberdier elements in other armies.

They are finished off with my usual basing of magnetised MDF covered with Vallejo Earth Brown paste, gravel, tufts with the bases edged in Raw Umber.

This means that now I only have two more Canton Contingents to complete the Later Swiss army.

English Standard Wagons Commission

Two English Standard Wagons Commission

Bob at the club is building a Richard the Lionheart Crusader Army and an Anglo-Norman army and wanted two standard wagons for these armies. He purchased a couple of wagons from Essex Miniatures but asked me to provide the wagon guards etc.

To be honest I think the horses and oxen Essex provided were not that good. The horses are more suitable for a much later period and their oxen are quite small.

First thing I did was swap these out for some nicer oxen from my spares bag. Two Auroch sized Falcon Figures oxen for the Crusaders and two older Minifigs oxen for the English wagon.

The wagon guards for the Crusaders are Gladiator FE22 Flemish Spearmen from my recent purchase which meant I didn't have to paint them up on the off chance they would sell on EBay and the English wagon guards are some spare Essex spearmen with earlier teardrop shields. The Anglo-Norman wagon will do for the Early Crusaders army too at a push despite the Banner of St Cuthbert Bob requested I use. This wagon didnt come with a standard but luckily I had a spare Minifigs one left over from my previous workings on making standard wagons.

Bob wants to base them himself so they are unbased ready for delivery.

Another 28mm D&D Commission - Part 1

When I Am Given An Offer I Can't Refuse!

Someone I know plays D&D and asked me to paint up some more 28mm figures for their D&D mates. I can't refuse as it will make for domestic chaos if I do! There are four in all, three are from Wizkids and the forth an unknown metal casting.

The first up is a Male Human Barbarian.

They are sold by Wayland Games in Essex amongst various retailers, Product code WKZ73413.
https://www.waylandgames.co.uk/pathfinder/52491-male-human-barbarian

I don't really paint up 28mm scale figures and rarely paint up any fantasy stuff so it allows me to test my painting skills way out of my comfort zone.  It was an interesting fantasy commission to paint up and made a change from the usual Feudal Commissions I have had of late. More on those in a subsequent blog.

Like before the figure required minimal preparation as they are supposed to be painted out of the packet.

I used the retail image as a painting guide along with another picture I have been given and drew inspiration from Hercules, Conan and the Beastmaster.

The other three are on my painting table and will be blogged in due course once I have finally completed the Feudal commission I currently have.
